Ryan Smedley

Ryan graduated from Federation University with a Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theatre in 2015. Since then, he has performed across Australia with groups such as the Melbourne Shakespeare Company (The Comedy of Errors), Echelon Productions (Fair Dinkum!) and Boutique Theatre Company (Beneath the Skin). Ryan is also proud to have performed in many workshops and premieres of original Australian musicals, such as Butch Masters: Man of Destiny, Join the Dots, Moonlite, Tan Toey’s House and Stealing Picasso.

Ryan’s cabaret The Aspie Hour, written and performed with fellow Fed Uni graduate Sophie Smyth, has delighted sold-out audiences across the country with its witty and poignant look at Autism Spectrum Disorder, musical theatre, and mental health. In 2019, Sophie and Ryan won the Green Room Award for Best Writing in a Cabaret, and were nominated for Best Ensemble in a Cabaret.

Ryan holds a Masters of Information Management from RMIT University, and works in the digital archives of the ABC. He is thrilled to be a part of the cast of Impromptunes, helping to create a new piece of musical theatre with every performance.
